Celtic Flow Mandala

Celtic Flow Mandala

Interlaced movement that turns repetition into a gentle trance. Loops and crossings braid together like breath and river-current, creating continuity that feels unbroken and reassuring.

Ink and alcohol markers on paper.

Artist Statement

Inspired by ancient Celtic mythology. Although the Celts did not use the mandala iconography, they did create their own patterns and used them to create symbolic representations of ideas and concepts. These designs served purposes similar to mandalas, such as focusing the mind and symbolizing the continuity of life, death, and spirit.

Spirals: Represent growth, with the direction of the spiral sometimes symbolizing positive or negative energy.

Knotwork: Elaborate patterns that symbolize the continuity of spirit.

My Celtic mandala includes both spirals and knotwork to bridge the ancient Celtic, Buddhist and contemporary spiritual traditions.
