A bridge between eras: ancient-symbol mood rendered in clean, contemporary geometry. The piece feels like a relic upgraded with precision—mythic at the core, modern in its edges and pacing.
Ink on paper.
Artist Statement
I am influenced by my travels in Guinea and Mali, West Africa and my use of psilocybin mushrooms when I was a young man. The ability to manipulate energy by the shaman’s I met in West Africa solidified my belief that everything is energy and because we are also made of the same energy, we are able to transform the material world by utilizing the invisible forces available to us. The cowry shells represents the connection between people and the earth and sea. The shells also represent a spiritual connection to the unseen worlds. The mushrooms represent my experiences with that unseen world at a time when I didn’t realize we could access those worlds without the use of psychedelics. It was my African relationships that showed me all that we needed was belief and surrender. The future was present in the past; an ancient future.
